The K-12 Educator Workforce and Disparities in Educational Opportunity
Today, the United States spends nearly one trillion dollars per year on its system of public preK-12 education. Despite the enormity of this expenditure, we still have much to learn about its largest portion — the educator workforce, dedicated professionals tasked with nurturing the nation's fifty million public school students.
In this Mountain Talk, J. Cameron Anglum, Ph.D., will share his insights from over a decade studying the intersection of public school funding and educator labor markets. Focusing on teacher shortages and turnover, educator compensation, and student access to a stable and prosperous educator workforce, Anglum will apply an economic lens to explore various public policy approaches to public education. This will include lessons critical to policymaking and practice in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and across the nation.
